CEC Orientation and Ethics Training

MANDATORY | Steps to Completing the Orientation & Ethics Training

The CEC Orientation & Ethics Training is offered every semester to all incoming students planning on participating in community engagement on and off campus. Students are required to complete this training once an academic year if they are participating in any form of community engagement. If you completed this training in the Fall you won’t need to attend/watch until the following academic year).

MANDATORY ASYNCHRONOUS/ALTERNATIVE TRAINING | Steps to Completing the alternative training

1. Watch the Orientation & Ethics Training
2. Complete the short Orientation  & Ethics Training Quiz
3. Complete the CEC Student Intake and CEC Ethics Contract

Clearance is required usually for students working any protected populations such as: minors, elderly, people with disabilities, people who are incarcerated. If you are not working with these populations, your students will not need clearance. Typical clearance requirements include:

• Proof of a negative TB test result
• LiveScan (fingerprinting background check)

TB Requirements | If you are required to take a TB test by your partner organization, please follow these instructions:

1. Go to Student Health Services (SHS) and request a TB test.
2. Provide proof of negative TB to partner, professor, and CEC.
3. Upload your Negative TB Test results here. 

LiveScan (Fingerprinting) | If you are required to be cleared by your partner organization, please follow these instructions. If for any reason you are unable to complete a LiveScan clearance, please contact Jack Contreras immediately:

1. Complete a LiveScan Form:

If your partner is not listed above, you will need to get the form from them directly.

1. Students are required to fill out their personal information:
   • First name, last name, and middle name (if applicable)
   • Citizenship information
   • Social Security Number
   • Residence Information
   • Failure to complete all the information required may result in delays in clearance.
2. Once this form is complete, students will take this form, along with their state-issued ID or passport, to anywhere that offers LiveScan services.
3. Your results will be delivered to the agency indicated on your form (your partner organization).

On-Campus LiveScan: 

Federal Fingerprinting | MOBILE LIVE SCAN | We will be providing on-campus LiveScanning during our CEC Orientation and Ethics Training, September 6th from 2pm-4pm in the Founder's Room.

Students participating in SRX course internships or other community engagement partnerships may be required to travel for their work. Below are a list of possible transportation options available to students, and all are eligible for reimbursement through the CEC.

The CEC will reimburse Pitzer students doing community engagement work through SRX courses or internships up to $200 per semester. We also offer reimbursement to non-Pitzer students if they are doing community engagement work through a SRX Pitzer class.

We offer reimbursements to all students participating in a Pitzer Social Responsibility Praxis (SRX) course and Pitzer students who are particpating in community engagement practices outside of courses. 

This includes reimbursement for: 

•  Clearance (LiveScan/Fingerprinting, TB testing)
• Transportation 
• Some conference-related cost

Margo Okazawa Rey (MOR) Fellowship |  APPLICATION

The Pitzer College Community Engagement Center (CEC), in collaboration with the Intercollegiate Department of Asian American Studies (IDAAS) at the Claremont Colleges, supports the Margo Okazawa-Rey Summer Fellowship to encourage outstanding college students to implement community-based, creative, and/or research projects that integrate social justice, multi-racial solidarity, and feminism, with an emphasis in Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies.

Newman Civic Fellowship | APPLICATION

The Newman Civic Fellowship is a year-long program that recognizes and supports student public problem solvers at Campus Compact member institutions. Fellows are nominated by their president or chancellor based on their potential for public leadership and their work with communities. Throughout the fellowship year, Campus Compact provides students with opportunities to nurture their assets and help them develop strategies for social change—creating a network of connected and engaged student leaders who can support one another in making positive change.

The CEC would like to invite you to apply for the Kallick Community Service Award available each semester. This award is open to all students who have completed 100+ hours of community engagement work over the course of the current academic year. Don’t forget, you can combine your project hours!

Kallick Awards Recognizes Pitzer Students for Community Engagement 

Social Responsibility Thesis Award |  APPLICATION

This award is designed to support Pitzer students who will be completing a senior thesis or project during the 2025 spring semester. Funding is awarded to students who complete a senior thesis or project relating to a social responsibility or community engagement theme.

Program Assistants provide support for the specific pillar/program they are assigned. This includes providing logistical support to program related events (workshops, trainings, engagement events, etc), creating programming related materials, outreach, supporting community partnerships and more.
